When will the British film industry cease from making these contrived, trivial and mawkish "feelgood comedies". My three-year-old son could have written this.
Martin Freeman (always good, even in the most fearsome hogwash) plays Mr Maddens, a sad and lonely (his girlfriend, Ashley Jensen, up and left him one Christmas) teacher, working at an under-achieving Catholic primary school, run by a moist-eyed Pam Ferris. Every year the school competes with a local private school for the best production of the Christmas nativity play. They always lose. This year Mr Maddens is determined to win. Inane.
