DVD: Outnumbered: Series 3 (12)

This is not quite as good as the first two series, but it's still – by a country mile – the best family sitcom on TV.

The two small children – Daniel Roche's unsettling Ben and Romana Marquez's tyrannical, rather macabre Karen – are the stars, with the best lines: "I know how we can save money! By not buying broccoli!" However, Claire Skinner, as the under-siege mother, Sue, is equally good, providing Outnumbered with its moral centre. Hugh Dennis's sleep-deprived, weary teacher, Pete, is also hugely sympathetic and gets some of the best storylines here, particularly "The Tennis Match" episode where Karen (umpire) and Ben (ball boy) demolish his game. A smash.
