Fourteen years on from Festen, Thomas Vinterberg returns with a parable about a nursery teacher (Mads Mikkelsen) in an apparently close-knit rural Danish community who's wrongly accused of abusing his young charges.
Mikkelsen's squirming discomfort is heart-wrenching, but as The Hunt slides from plausible, sober drama to implausible satirical comedy, it loses some of its unsettling power along the way.
