A nerdy macaw (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) lives in comfortable captivity in Minnesota until a run-in with smugglers leaves him chained to a Brazilian bird (voiced by Anne Hathaway) on the streets of Rio de Janeiro.

It's a harmless, diverting and vibrantly colourful cartoon, but the script isn't great: for much of the film the feathered heroes and numerous sidekicks are, effectively, on a sight-seeing tour of the city.
