Remember "Eerie, Indiana" from the 1990s? Shorts is akin to that but the bizarre scenarios here involve kids who appear to have been force-fed too many E-numbers.
The film revolves around a group of school children who discover a magic stone that will grant any wish. The mayhem which ensues is laughable at best. The director Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids trilogy) appears to be CGI-obsessed, filling Shorts to the brim with all manner of special effects. The dire acting and patronising moral-teaching would be more suited to an after-school programme than a feature film. The build-up is slow, the product placement sickening and the quirky cinematic tricks can't make Shorts palatable.
