JJ Abrams's second Star Trek outing (a third is in the pipeline) is fine as long as you're not too fond of Star Trek.
It's entertaining as a fast, whizzy science-fiction action movie, plot holes notwithstanding (well, the writers did work on Prometheus and Lost). But, despite all the references to the original series, which will amuse some fans and infuriate others, there's not enough philosophical enquiry to appease the true Trekkie.
