Steven Spielberg has thrown the kitchen sink, particularly visually, at this animated Tintin, yet it still fails to capture the sheer delight of Hergé's adventures.
This weirdly unengaging picture takes in three Tintin capers – The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham's Treasure. Jamie Bell voices the intrepid reporter, Andy Serkis the sozzled Captain Haddock and Daniel Craig the dastardly Rackman, and all are fine. Yet the expressionless faces and joyless script fall flat. The performance-capture technology is ingenious but it's also soulless.
