David Fincher's dark artistry can't disguise the merely serviceable content of this genre piece, an English-language adaptation of the grim Scandinavian crime novel that started it all.
Overlong and under-characterised, it's stronger on style than suspense, though it's a fine launching pad for the hitherto unknown Rooney Mara: as goth-punk investigator Lisbeth Salander, her alien intensity is more unnerving than any plot detail. HM
