Tony Scott's brainless remake of the classic 1974 thriller stars Denzel Washington as a New York subway dispatcher and a hammy John Travolta as a tattooed psycho who radios him to announce that he's hijacked a train.
Scott's style is more berserk than ever. Every second or two he whirls the camera around, zooms in, throws in some slow-motion, and then freeze-frames and slaps a caption onscreen. It's a pity none of these hijinks compensate for the inert dialogue.
