If it weren't for the minor detail that it isn't written or directed by Woody Allen, this bittersweet comic drama would count as the year's second excellent Woody Allen film.
Joaquin Phoenix stars as a depressive drop-out who's moved back into his parents' flat in Brooklyn. They're keen to pair him off with Vinessa Shaw, the eminently suitable daughter of a business contact, but Phoenix is intrigued by Gwyneth Paltrow, an unstable blond neighbour who represents everything he isn't.
