Kenneth Branagh is a bit Marmite: you either love him or loathe him.
Which is a shame for Wallender, a very serviceable, dour Swedish police thriller drama, as Branagh plays it every bit as unluvvyish as necessary.
The result is a fine turn as a detective who takes his cases to heart, often at the expense of family. There's also no flash nonsense à la CSI, just honest-to-goodness police work. Very watchable, though it's not going to change the world.
