Nick Nolte scene steals as Paddy Conlon, a recovering alcoholic with a history of violence, in Gavin O'Connor's hokey but very watchable fight drama.
Paddy's two estranged sons, physics teacher Brendon (Joel Edgerton) and ex-Marine Tommy (Tom Hardy), are competing for $1m prize money at Sparta in Atlantic City, "the Super Bowl of Mixed Martial Arts".
Tommy is the ultra-violent brother who is trained by his dad; Brendan is the dependable family man, heavily in debt due to his daughter's medical bills, trained by his pal. It's full of silly Dodgeball-style dialogue, but Warrior is blessed with two solid turns (Hardy and Edgerton) and one excellent one (Nolte).
