The French director Claire Denis returns to the colonial Africa of her childhood for a beautifully shot film full of atmosphere, held together by the magnificent Isabelle Huppert.
She plays the daughter of a coffee-plantation owner in an unnamed land where rebels have rendered the streets lawless. Unwilling to leave her homeland, the pressure builds, leaving her family (and their mental state) as unstable as the country.
