Werner Herzog's 1974 masterpiece receives a welcome revival.
The film boasts a hugely moving performance from Bruno S., the self-taught actor and musician discovered by the director, as Kaspar, the adult who turns up in 1820s Nuremberg seemingly never having seen another human. He is regarded as a freak by the local townsfolk who dote on him and torment him by turns. However, he has an intuition and gentleness that they lack.
