There's an almost Dickensian grimness to this vignette of life in modern Tehran; more Hard Times than A Christmas Carol, though. The plot is every bit as bleak as the title suggests - a young widow, struggling to make ends meet, is courted by a man from the north who is having trouble holding down a job; what is special is a willingness to take time over moods and images, in combination with real conciseness in the story-telling.
