And you thought the Moonies were scary. This documentary investigates the rise of the Christian fundamentalist right and the terrifying possibility that they might determine the course of the next US election. Its focus is an evangelical summer camp run by Pastor Becky Fischer, whose agenda is to school children in how to "take back America for Christ".
Two of her "soldiers", Levi and Rachael, are bright-eyed, articulate and genial kids who in another life would probably be tremendous fun; as it is, they stand on the street parroting the Good News. I fear for their future. Documentary makers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady refrain from mocking their subject, because they have no need to. The sight of the faithful pouring holy water on a cut-out of President Bush is sufficient comment in itself.
