The outsider artist Bruno S gives an extraordinary, affecting performance in Werner Herzog's disquieting and dream-like 1974 Pygmalion comedy, as Kaspar Hauser, a mysterious historical figure, unused to civilised society, who was discovered in 19th-century Nuremberg and attracted the interest of both freakshows and men of science.
