Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (PG) <!-- none onestar twostar threestar fourstar fivestar -->
Though still unmoved by Leonard Cohen's revered brand of poetic miserabilism, I rather warmed to him as an interviewee in this 70th birthday tribute, the bulk of it a concert filmed in Sydney with contributions from Nick Cave, Martha and Rufus Wainwright, Jarvis Cocker, Beth Orton, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, and more. While his lyrics thrive on a rueful wit, the songs themselves seem to have been composed exclusively for people who can't actually sing - the tunes are all over the place.
Cohen remains engagingly humble about his work, which unfortunately leaves room for celebrity fans like Bono, at his most grandiloquent, to explain to us just how marvellous that humility is. His sanctification is the last thing anybody needs.
