Adapted from Owen Sheers's novel, this is a slow-burning but beautifully shot drama in the It Happened Here mould.

It's 1944 in rural Wales. D-Day has failed and the Germans have invaded. As their menfolk join the resistance, the women are left to run the farms. As the seasons pass, farmer's wife Sarah (Andrea Riseborough) strikes up a friendship with a Nazi officer, but they can't keep the outside world at bay for long. Lyrical and well-observed, the film's drawback is its lack of dramatic oomph.
