Odd how one's tastes change. Back in 1980 I recall my utter delight on first hearing the Talking Heads' fourth, career-changing album, Remain in Light.
Thirty years on I would happily never listen to "Once in a Lifetime" ever again. David Byrne still includes it in his set, however, along with a bunch of songs he yodels and gurns through in this concert performance. The Talking Heads have yielded the stage to a new band and a sideshow of, ahem, interpretive dance, neither of which lifted songs it now puzzles me to find unspeakably dreary. The one exception is the melancholy lament "Heaven", though even this seemed to have lost its nuance and delicacy under Byrne's thunderous live arrangement.
