The action, all set on Christmas Eve, sets off at a brisk lick but can't quite find any comic rhythm. The double-crossing plot, which also introduces Connie Nielsen as a femme fatale, does somersaults trying to grab our attention, but in the end just isn't funny or sly enough, and even the cast begin to look apologetic for the creakiness of it all.
