Colin Firth keeps an admirably straight face as a Roman commander, some time during the decline and fall, who rescues a boy-emperor from Goth invaders and whisks him off to find reinforcements in Britain, aided by a mystically inclined tutor with an implausible Welsh accent (Ben Kingsley, who ought to be having more fun) and an Indian warrior maiden. Tosh, but disarmingly sincere.
