Love in the time of Aids: in Paris in 1984, a policeman starts an affair with a young gay man, who is then stricken by mysterious illnesses. Téchiné's film is marvellously resistant to stereotyping, but he's only really interested in men; as the policeman's wife, Emmanuelle Béart finds herself at sea.
