Not since Amores Perros has Mexico City looked such a perilous place. This drama digs into the squalor of sex-trafficking, its focus 13-year-old Adriana (Paulina Gaitan) and a Polish immigrant Veronica (Alicja Bachleda), both snatched off the street and processed through a grinder of exploitation that will end with their internet auction. The girl's brother (Cesar Ramos) and a bereaved US cop (Kevin Kline) go in pursuit. Jose Rivera's script plays uneasily, as do some of the directorial flourishes: the shots of rose stems and caged birds are galumphingly emphatic at moments that need no underlining.
