This Danish heartwarmer recalls the heady days of 1969 and a sensitive 13-year-old's troubled rites of passage. Frits (Janus Dissing Rathke) is assaulted at his new school by the sadistic headmaster (Bent Mejding) whose iron rule cows pupils and parents alike. Writer-director Niels Arden Oplev renders the integrity of this rebel teen a touch too winsome; if Frits were just a little less righteous he would be more believable. One might also wish away the echoes of Dead Poets Society.
