This is a Spinal Tap-style vampire comedy, shot as if it’s an observational documentary.
At its best, it is very funny indeed, with delightfully dry performances from Waititi (writer-director of record-breaking Kiwi comedy Boy) and Clement (of Flight of the Conchords fame.) They play vampires who share a house with other bloodsuckers in Wellington and are continually bickering about such subjects as the washing up and the rent. The film does repeat itself and seems a little stretched at feature length – but there is plenty of hilarity along the way.
