Star Wars 'The Last Jedi' should be excluded from the film series canon, says online petition

Some people are not happy with George Lucas' latest work

If you've been following the characters since the series' 1977 inception, you probably have a serious point of view on the narratives within the prequels, original films and follow-ups.

Now a certain Star Wars fan who goes by the name of Henry Walsh, has taken to the internet to petition that The Last Jedi is removed from the Star Wars canon.

Walsh, disappointed in the Star Wars saga's more recent plotlines, has crafted a petition to re-make Episode VIII.

In his online plea, which is signed by more than 10,000 people, he says: "Episode VIII was a travesty. It completely destroyed the legacy of Luke Skywalker and the Jedi. It destroyed the very reasons most of us, as fans, liked Star Wars. This can be fixed. Just as you wiped out 30 years of stories, we ask you to wipe out one more, the Last Jedi. Remove it from canon, push back Episode IX and re-make Episode VIII properly to redeem Luke Skywalker's legacy, integrity, and character."

In case you're doubting the seriousness of this petition, Walsh ends his note saying, "Don't do this to us. Don't take something so many of us loved so much and destroy it like this. Let us keep our heroes."

The petition supports the group of fans who have been panning The Last Jedi; the audience assessment on movie reviews website Rotten Tomatoes was poor, coming in at only 56 per cent.

Normally the gap between the audience and critics reviews aren't so far apart, but that wasn't the case for the latest Star Wars flick.

The internet even suspected that 4chan was behind the low score, however a plethora of dedicated fans and regular moviegoers seem to be in alignment about the shortcomings of the film.

Walsh has less than 5,000 signatures to go before the petition becomes a potential reality, and Star Wars fandom is no joke.
