The Little Prince will debut on Netflix in August
The classic children’s book makes its US debut.
Netflix announced on Thursday that The Little Prince will premiere theatrically and on Netflix on August 5.
The film, based on Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s 1943 novella, was supposed to be released in March but was pulled from all US theaters by Paramount Pictures. However, it was still released in more than 50 international markets.
“It’s been a crazy adventure, the entire production,” director Mark Osborne told Entertainment Weekly. “How I look at it, the release pattern is really uncommon too.”
The Little Prince features the voice acting from Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd and Benicio Del Toro. Following the journey of a small prince on his tiny home planet, a young girl learns that anything is possible in her own world.
“I really wanted to find a way to create a cinematic emotional experience that was equivalent to the emotional experience that someone can have reading the book,” Osborne told the outlet. “I really saw the movie as an opportunity to pay tribute to the power of the book. Not just adapt the book word for word, but a chance to adapt what the book means to people, and how it affects their lives."
