Weekly US film releases: Clooney, De Niro and Barrymore holiday fare

On September 1, George Clooney stars in The American, getting an early jump at the box office over the US Labor Day holiday weekend. It is followed on Friday, September 3, by Robert Rodriguez's action movie Machete and Drew Barrymore in Going the Distance.

The American
A thriller adapted from the novel by Martin Booth, the film stars George Clooney as an assassin on his final assignment, hiding out in an Italian town until his romantic entanglements complicate the mission. Directed by Anton Corbijn ( Control), it also features Sweden's Irina Björklund, the Netherlands' Thekla Reuten and Italy's Violante Placido.

Machete
