The second half of the Eighties was a deeply troubled time for English football, but the soul-searching and self-examination did lead to the creation of the Football Supporters Association, which gives the fan in the street a forum. Join the perpetual debate about the great game next Thursday, when the FSA's London branch holds a Question Time meeting upstairs at the Ebury Arms, in Pimlico Road, Victoria.

Though each meeting kicks off with a specific topic, the discussion usually also expands to take in the current big issue - bungs and bribes, the latest England debacle, court case of the week etc. Thursday's meeting is on "Football in the Community", with guest speaker John Hollins, the former Chelsea and England stalwart now combining coaching at QPR with regular employment as Sky TV's rent-a-quote. He's joined by Paul Elliott (right), formerly of Chelsea, Celtic and Pisa, now an articulate match analyst for C4's Italian coverage; Neil Watson, Leyton Orient's Community Officer; and Debbie Bampton, Croydon Ladies' player/manager and England international. The meeting starts at 7pm, it's free of charge, and you don't have to be an FSA member to get in.
