Sir: Although Ford USA undoubtedly did not control the Ford plant in Cologne during the Second World War ("Slave labour at Auschwitz used by Ford", 20 August), it is reported that the plant was spared bombing by the Allies and was in production very shortly after its occupation by ground forces. Interestingly, the IG Farben headquarters in Frankfurt- am-Main was known to be a safe spot for Nazi officials during bombing raids. It was hardly touched, while the residences of workers near the cathedral were flattened.
