Sir: Perhaps Melvyn Bragg should put his own house in order - Dolly Parton indeed! - before he attacks the rest of the television industry ("Television lacks `intellectual ambition', says Bragg", 2 September). There's no shortage of intelligent TV on at the moment - Frasier, NYPD Blue, Homicide, The Sopranos - it's just all made by Americans.
