Keith Jarrett: La Scala (ECM, CD). Pianist Jarrett's The Koln Concert of 1975 was the best-selling solo piano album ever. This 1995 recording at Milan's famed opera house is Jarrett's first solo set for some years. Though less immediately engrossing than Koln, it's still full of dense, atmospheric themes, beautifully felt. Jarrett's trademark habit of singing along Glenn Gould-style to his improvisations is as offputting, as ever, but it's justified by the sense of wonder he brings to his material.
