LAST 5 RECORDS I BOUGHT: Jacqui Dankworth

Jacqui Dankworth, Cleo Laine's daughter, is becoming famous in her own right. Her new album is entitled Field of Blue

One of my most recent purchases was Shopping Trolley, an absolutely beautiful album - wonderful singing by Melanie Pappenheim combined with the music of John Miller. The track "Roundabout" is a particular favourite. Roberta Flack's first album, First Take, is another new CD. It's particularly memorable for her soulful and soothing voice, some great piano playing, and Ron Carter's mellow bass. And I lit up when I heard Mingus Dynasty by Charlie Mingus, who is, in my opinion, a jazz genius.

Another artist whose music I have recently bought was the much underrated and underplayed singer-songwriter Laura Nyro. Her new album, Smile, has words to blow your mind and a voice which cuts you in two. Finally, Dedication, by Thin Lizzy simply makes me happy. "Sarah" is one of the most beautifully written tracks I've ever heard - particularly well recorded by our very own producer Pete Schwicer!"
