Latitude 2014: Best family friendly things to do with kids
We round-up the best theatre, book readings and family events on offer
The National Theatre
Katie Mitchells' National Theatre production of The Cat in the Hat (right), based on Dr Seuss's books about an anarchic cat who turns up at the home of two children while their mother is out and turns the place upside down, is faithfully re-created with set designs by Vicki Mortimer.
The Gruffalo Games
The Gruffalo is coming to Latitude to celebrate his 15th birthday. The Book Nook, sponsored by Macmillan Children's Books, presents outdoor games for kids every afternoon, focused on the nation's favourite monster. In the new family campsite Enchanted Garden, the family film club will also be screening The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child.
Inbetweeners' Teen Area
There are digital, creative and adventure workshops for teenagers hosted by Cultureworks East and Greenpeace - everything from comic book design, animation, music production and DJing to journalism and fashion. There are scrabble nets and zip wires high in the trees, and bush craft activities from building a shelter to mastering the art of the outdoor fire.
The Revenge of Mr Trout
This co-production between TongueTied Theatre and the York Theatre Royal is a chaotic and interactive adventure set aboard a pirate ship. Kids will enjoy throwing buckets of water at Mrs Trout as she walks the plank - she has spent too much time playing practical jokes on her husband Mr Trout.
