Latitude Festival 2014: Jack Dee, Alison Moyet and David Bailey among newly-confirmed acts

The annual summer event is returning for its ninth year from 17-20 July

While the crowds are a fairly even split, the new study has found that their is a major gender imbalance on festival stages (Latitude)

Latitude Festival has announced more big names from across the arts world for its 2014 line-up, including musicians Alison Moyet and Jimi Goodwin, Bafta-winning John McLean, comedian Jack Dee and legendary photographer David Bailey.

The annual summer event returns from the ninth time from 17-20 July in the grounds of Henham Park, Suffolk, after winning Line-Up of the Year at the UK Festival Awards.

Among the vast range of other newly-confirmed music acts are: Garage rockers Archie Bronson Outfit, avant-garde pianist Hauschka, dance fusion sensation Phantogram, Swedish winger Seinabo Sey and New Zealand’s sibling duo Broads.

Elsewhere, Lance Horne and Nigel Richards will perform Neil Gaiman’s The Night Of My Wedding using love poems he wrote to his wife, The Portrait Choir will perform an exploration of wartime under a backdrop of National Portrait Gallery images, and award-winning filmmaker Nick Broomfield will dicuss his new documentary on the US class system.

Comics set to appear include Matt Rees, Katherine Ryan, Jeremy Hardy, Vikki Stone and upcoming stand-up Ed Gamble.

There will be highlights from the hit musical Once, a sultry rendition of the Argentinean Tango by German Cornejo and Gisela Galeassi, and Kate Tempest’s new production, Hopelessly Devoted.

Tomorrow night sees Latitude team-up with the New Statesman to present a panel debate on the surveillance state. Speakers for Secrets and Lies: Should We Know How Far Surveillance Goes? Include Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, The Snowden Files author Luke Harding and Emma Carr, acting director of Big Brother Watch.
