Sir: Thank you for drawing attention to the highest number of ordinations since the 1980s by the Church of England this year. It is also noteworthy that 53 per cent of the new clergy are self-supporting, earning their living by continuing in secular jobs.
This trend, across a number of churches, adds greatly to their ability to relate to the everyday experiences of people, whether church members or not. It is an aspect of ordained ministry which deserves every encouragement.
The Rev ROBERT FOX
Secretary
