Letter: Drug victims
Sir: Danny Kushlick believes that, when all drugs are legalised, "as with alcohol, the vast majority of users will cause few or no problems to themselves or to others" (Comment, 16 November).
This is nonsense. Demand will not go down when toxic and highly addictive substances are available from every chemist; it will go up. There will be more deaths, more addiction, more ruined lives.
Yes, the key is education. We need to change the culture in which drugs are "cool" to one in which their dangers are fully accepted. Then resources can be targeted on treatment to free addicts from their living hell.
