Sir: The repression of news coming from East Timor by the Indonesians has been such that whilst Pinochet's Chile was front-page news with hundreds being murdered, thousands were slaughtered by Kopassus, the Indonesian Special Forces.

This country owes a considerable debt to East Timor, after colluding with a military dictatorship and providing it with the arms to slaughter old men, women and small children.
