Sir: David Aaronovitch (Comment, 10 November) writers: "We rely on the Government to set pay at levels that will attract good teachers and nurses, but not all teachers are good ones. Simply increasing the salaries of everyone would be to reward the useless with the brilliant." According to Chris Woodhead, 15,000 teachers are unsatisfactory. Put another way, rather fewer than 3 per cent are incompetent.Could David Aaronovitch inform us of the firms in industry and commerce operating at 97 per cent efficiency?
