Sir: So the UK is not part of Europe's historical problems?
How does Michael Knight (letter, 28 July) explain away the Roman invasion, the Anglo-Saxon invasions, the Norman invasion, the Hundred Years War, the Reformation, the War of the Spanish Succession, the Napoleonic wars, the Crimean War, the wars in Ireland, the First World War, the Second World War, the Cold War and lately involvement in Bosnia and Kosovo?
Economic and political integration offer some prospect of a less bloody way of solving ethnic and other differences within Europe. What price splendid isolation ?
