Letter: European mire

Sir: The corruption that has been uncovered in the European Commission is indicative of a more deep-rooted problem that we are powerless to rectify.

There are countries within Europe to whom these dubious practices are an accepted part of day-to-day life, inherent in social infrastructures and at every level of power. To align ourselves as a nation with such abhorrent habits will undermine the integrity of the British people. If we continue down the road of total integration we will be dragged into a mire from which extrication will be long and painful.
