Sir: Our government appears to be in thrall to big business, of which football has come to be one of the more unacceptable branches.
On any given match day only a small minority will attend matches. Whatever can be the justification of banning the sale and consumption of alcohol from entire towns and city districts (report, 28 November)?
The answer to violence around football stadiums is to close matches to spectators or cancel flashpoint matches. If that effects TV revenue - the main concern of football's big bosses - they will find their own way of dealing with what is their problem. If not, too bad.
