Sir: I was amused to see, on my television screen last Saturday, the sports commentator immaculately coifed and in a well-tailored suit with collar and tie, while the gentleman who gave the commentary for the performance of Handel's opera Semele at the Coliseum appeared with his hair tousled and clad in a suitably shabby shirt and jacket.
Dressing up and dressing down: perhaps only the British know how to dress for the occasion.
