Letter: Gay age of consent

Sir: As a Christian I share the concern of Muslims, expressed by Dr Katme, about the planned lowering of the age of consent for homosexuality, as well as the plan to abolish Section 28 of the Local Government Act.

It is sad that a prime minister who claims to be a Christian is elevating political correctness above the moral teaching of the main world faiths. The law as it stands is not intended to promote discrimination against a minority who might have a homosexual orientation, but to counter the notion that a homosexual lifestyle is as valid as a heterosexual or celibate one.

Education should be about protecting the weak and helping to promote high moral values.
