Sir: The United States has recently named seven Iraqi opposition groups eligible for $97m in aid, a significant amount of which is to be in the form of military equipment. Can the United States be certain that they are not preparing to equip another potential Osama bin Laden, currently "America's public enemy No 1", who himself benefited greatly from American aid to the Mujahedin during their struggle against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan?
