Sir: The Archbishop wants a minute's silence at midnight on 31 December in the Dome and around the country. Candles are being prepared. The BBC wants colour and noise. Impasse ("New Year row", 17 May). Solution: sing "Silent Night" while we hold candles. I'm sure those of other faiths won't mind references to the "Saviour's birth". The Scots and Welsh won't mind singing a European carol. Most important of all the whole country knows the tune, and it feels prayerful.
