Sir : You have given us Ken Livingstone on "How to stop Jeffrey Archer becoming mayor of London" (Review, 3 June). May we now have Jeffrey Archer on how to stop Ken Livingstone becoming mayor of London?

Sir: Your example of a Swede grappling with a pie being a trifle tart (letter, 4 June) reminded us of a Spanish colleague.

When we first started our business, he was anxious to impress us as a possible partner; so sent us a fax which said: "Please be assured of our commitment to your product: we would like you to know that we are working hardly every day."

We didn't take him at his word.
