Sir: Your wide-ranging article on McDonald's ("The burger that ate the world", 10 June) said little about the effect on people who live near their restaurants and nothing about the smell! McDonald's, by taking over pubs, is moving quickly into suburbs and, alas, the sweet, fatty smell of cooking drifts in and around local gardens, making work or relaxation quite impossible.
