Sir: Lord Janner (letter, 2 July) is misguided, albeit understandably, in his support for an Holocaust Remembrance Day. Britain is not a Jewish nation. Remembrance Day commemorates the sacrifice of our people in the cause of freedom. The Holocaust and the cruelty perpetrated upon, mainly, Jewish people in Nazi death camps are frightful historic facts. However, we should not allow our grief for those atrocities to confuse the issue of what is a suitable cause for any British national remembrance ceremony.
